Sports

New Zealand is a nation of sports mad Kiwis. Our athletes have won international acclaim through their efforts in sailing, rugby, netball, skiing, cycling, rowing and more.  Most of us aren’t at world class level, but that doesn’t stop us!

  • Popular Sports: Rugby, netball, cricket, sailing, skiing, cycling, and golf are just a few of the favourites.
  • Social Sports: Join a social netball team, play touch rugby on the beach, or hit the golf course.
  • Seasonal Opportunities: Daylight saving gives us more time in the summer months to maximise our love of the outdoors. And the winter temperatures are welcome if it means some good dumps of powder on our mountains.

Wherever you settle in New Zealand, you’ll find your tribe in a sport you already enjoy – or will come to enjoy. Getting involved in a group or club is a great way of making friends and becoming part of your new community. Of course, the numerous benefits of moving our bodies are not unknown to doctors! Prescribe it for yourself!

The Great Outdoors

New Zealand’s breathtaking landscapes offer endless opportunities for outdoor adventures:

  • Great Walks of NZ: Eleven stunning trails through diverse terrain, perfect for hikers and nature lovers.
  • Te Araroa Trail: Spanning 3,000 km across New Zealand, it’s ideal for walkers and cyclists—tackle it in stages or plan for the ultimate adventure!

Whether you’re hiking, biking, or simply soaking in the scenery, the outdoors in NZ are an integral part of life.

Community Resources

Need guidance or support? The Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) is here to help:

  • Services: Advice on consumer rights, employment, housing, family matters, and more.
  • Locations: Visit one of the many offices across NZ or access resources online.

Joining community groups or tapping into resources like CAB makes settling in smoother and more rewarding.
